Elton John Gig Ticket Scam Prompts Consumer Warning About Viagogo After Fans Denied Entry
Australian Broadcasting Corp. News (12/05/19) Kallios, Natarsha; Dempster, Alice
Some 200 fans who bought presale tickets to a recent Elton John concert in Adelaide, Australia, through Viagogo were denied admission, prompting South Australia's Commissioner for Consumer Affairs Dini Soulio to advise against buying through the ticketing reseller. His recommendation stems from numerous complaints about tickets sold on the site. "People are spending hundreds of dollars on tickets to [Elton John's] concert, and similar concerts, and that doesn't take into account the travel and hotels and babysitters and other things, so people are significantly out of pocket because of this," Soulio noted. He also urged anyone who is refused entry to follow up with authorities. "Ticketmaster are giving people a letter at the box office if they are refused entry, to be evidence of the fact that they were refused, so they can use that as part of their refund process," he said. Meanwhile, a Viagogo spokesperson pledged that the reseller would help cheated fans recoup their money. "Viagogo provides a guarantee that in the rare instance a customer has a problem with a ticket, we will either find a replacement ticket or give a full refund," the spokesperson stated.
