What a Sold-Out NFL Game Is Like in 2020

National Football League fans are struggling to regain a sense of normalcy in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, as evidenced by the Jacksonville Jaguars drawing a socially distanced capacity crowd for the Sept. 24 game against the Miami Dolphins at TIAA Bank Field in Florida. The near-sellout crowd totaled 16,563 fans, or 25% of the arena's capacity. Social distancing markers indicated spacing limits for fans in line to buy concessions and memorabilia, or to use the restroom, while face coverings were mandatory. Fans sat in socially distant "pods" throughout the stadium, with seats tied off to prevent fans from sitting too close to one another. While Jaguars fans were excited to be back in the stadium, there was an atmosphere of caution. Miami achieved an early lead and never let up, winning 31-13. Still, fans stuck it out until nearly the end of the fourth quarter.
