The Space live music venue and recording studio in Evanston, Illinois, is staging private, socially distanced concerts for households in their front gardens. The To-Go Concerts series kicked off on May 9 with a 30-minute micro-concert by Jason Narducy on local residents' lawns. The events, which include take-away drinks and food from Space's sister restaurant, Union Squared, cost $450 per household with audiences of no more than 10 people. The request line for the first concerts series is now closed, with Space owner Jake Samuels publicizing that 60 people applied to have a concert on their front lawn. Staffers will be present to maintain social distancing and prevent neighbors from wandering over. They will wear fully sanitized gloves and masks and move on to the next residence if overcrowding becomes a problem. Space also has created a GoFundMe page and is selling merchandise. The venue is part of the newly established National Independent Venue Association, a coalition of U.S. grassroots venues pushing Congress for sector-specific aid.
