Some Cubs and Sox Fans Applaud Move to Digital Ticketing; Others Are Aggravated at Loss of Game Day Keepsake

The Chicago Cubs and White Sox's transition to digital mobile ticketing via the MLB Ballpark App is welcomed by some fans, while others lament the loss of paper tickets for their souvenir value. Fans like Amy Robinson appreciate the paperless tickets' convenience, noting, "It's just so much easier because you don't want to wait for somebody." Cubs official Colin Faulkner adds that digital tickets accessed via mobile devices have helped reduce fraud, and expedited entry times. Patrons who miss physical tickets include Cubs fan Josh Sandler, who notes, "I get the ease and convenience. But I at least like having that option of printing a copy." Faulkner estimated in February that the number of season ticket-holders who requested printed tickets had declined 5 percent. Sox season ticket-holders have the option of getting their tickets printed for a per-seat fee of $25 for the season. "I wouldn't be surprised if in the next year or two they say, get 'em on the app or we're not going to sell you the tickets," says Cubs season ticket-holder Mike Cahill. "But it seems a strange way to reward somebody's loyalty or their business."
