Germany has prohibited unvaccinated people from attending live events and venues in an attempt to curtail a fourth COVID wave, and its so-called 2G rule differs from its 3G policy that also permitted testing as an entry-measure protocol. The edict requires nightclubs to close in areas where 350 COVID cases have been posted per 100,000 people in the past week, while outdoor events are limited to 50% capacity with a maximum of 15,000 attendees; indoor events are also restricted to 50% capacity with a maximum of 5,000 attendees, and masks are mandatory at all events. The rule was imposed as departing Chancellor Angela Merkel said vaccinations could be mandated by February. The 2G rule is now in effect nationwide rather than in select German states, and while German promoters have generally welcomed this, some have expressed concerns about varying restrictions on social distancing and capacity, and urged further financial support in 2022. "That variation of rules makes touring and even single concerts impossible and results in uncertainties and injustices throughout Germany," said Detlef Kornett, CEO of Berlin-based promoter and ticket agency DEAG. "The end result is that live events are in some instances made impossible or economically unsound."
