Eventbrite CEO on the Transformative Power of Human Connection and Why Self-Doubt Is a Waste of Time

In an interview, Eventbrite CEO Julia Hartz says her company was motivated by the desire to empower live event facilitators, noting, "we were originally inspired by the notion of democratizing an industry using online payments. We wanted to use that entry point to create this link between great technology and live experiences." Hartz says supporting an exceptional and constantly evolving work culture that is owned by the people is key to Eventbrite's international expansion. "Every new Briteling brings to the table his or her own ideas, ideals, experiences and desires — this makes the fabric of who we are as a company," she stresses. Hartz also says the culture has helped her transition from being wholly people-centric to "building and flexing operations muscles." She notes Eventbrite has "built a uniquely flexible platform that increases the value of live experiences for both creators and attendees. This required significant innovation in everything from discovery tools for people to find and access local, fun and relevant experiences more easily, to technology solutions that meet the complex needs of our wide range of creators." Hartz says millennials are using Eventbrite to build a livelihood out of their fandom, and among the innovations she lauds is a radio-frequency identification solution that "is eliminating box office chaos and significantly cutting people's wait time in line at events like Anime Expo, which boast more than 90,000 attendees a year."
