Enmarket Arena's Sustainable Dave Matthews Band Tour Opener

Waste from a recent show at Enmarket Arena was sorted by hand as part of a larger campaign to produce a zero-waste tour opener for the Dave Matthews Band, which played the Savannah, Georgia, venue on Nov. 7. At the start of the group's fall 2023 tour leg, Matthews and his fellow bandmates announced they had every intention to make their shows sustainable. The 9,500-seat venue was up to the challenge, partnering with sustainability platform Green Operations & Advanced Leadership (GOAL) to produce a zero-waste concert. Over 90 percent of waste produced by the show was diverted from landfills, with nearly 1,800 pounds of compost hand-sorted to decrease methane emissions. There was also a variety of plant-based food options for those attending the concert. Since its 2022 opening, Enmarket Arena has utilized 100 percent LED lighting, auto-water faucets, reusable souvenir cups, and a couple of ORCA "food waste digesters" that refine food waste into liquid.
