The All England Club announced that the Wimbledon championships is hosting capacity crowds from the singles quarterfinals on Centre Court and No. 1 Court from July 6 onwards as pandemic restrictions are lifted. Attendance has been limited at 50% since the start of the tournament on June 28, while the following weekend's finals were to increase to 100% on the 15,000-capacity Centre Court. Wimbledon is being used as a pilot for the safe reinstatement of crowds as part of the U.K. government's Events Research Programme. The tournament will mark the first time outdoor stadiums will be at full capacity at a sporting event in Britain since the COVID-19 pandemic closed all U.K. sports in March 2020.
