More major music artists, especially those looking to appeal to Millennial nostalgia, are struggling to sell out the venues they're booked to perform in. Analysts are calling the trend "blue dot fever," a reference to the blue dots used to represent available seats on ticket-sale websites. The term has taken hold on social media. The Pussycat Dolls, former One Direction member Zayn Malik, Jennifer Lopez and Meghan Trainor have all cancelled tour dates due to underwhelming sales. Nathan Green, co-and CEO founder of New Level Radio, recently told Newsweek that "artists are getting booked into rooms too big for where they sit today" and still charging high ticket prices. He believes the "blue dot fever" trend is reversible if the people who can fix it want to. The reason a developing artist ends up in a 20,000-seat arena is that the agent and the promoter want a bigger payday. That's the main driver behind the empty seats."
