Stage performers in London's West End are sweltering amid a record heatwave that has theatres there being urged to push back shows and adopt World Cup-inspired hydration breaks. As of press time, at least three West End theatres had reported temperatures of 30C/86F inside or higher this past week, according to reports from the performing arts union Equity. A spokesperson for Equity has also said venues are encouraging production companies to reduce the use of lighting rigs, adapt costumes, and execute thorough risk assessments. The union added that 27C/80.6F "should be the cut-off for strenuous work," including performing a number in a musical in full costume.
