The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation recently marked up and passed the Transparency in Charges for Key Events Ticketing Act (S.281), or TICKET Act. Supporters say the legislation is necessary to ensuring a fair and transparent ticket market for fans nationwide. The TICKET Act has garnered near-universal support from both political parties, along with a host of consumer protection organizations, trade associations, and industry groups. It illegalizes hidden ticket fees by mandating all-in, upfront pricing. The bill also sets refund requirements by guaranteeing fans a full refund for a canceled event or, if the event is postponed, a comparable replacement ticket, at the fan's approval. Finally, it cracks down on misleading websites and deceptive URLs. Ticket websites will no longer be able to claim status as an "official" seller or reseller unless they are.
