Broadway's 2024-25 season has climbed to a record $1.89 billion in ticket sales, surpassing the 2018-19 season's final tally of $1.82 billion. This incredible tally was thanks in part to big, featured stars like George Clooney and Denzel Washington, high ticket prices and a diverse array of productions. Yet the final week’s grosses show there was plenty of power to draw in audiences beyond just Clooney, Denzel and the cast of "Glengarry Glen Ross." Other shows playing right around 100% capacity over the Memorial Day weekend range from such fixtures as "Wicked," "Hamilton" and "The Lion King" to relative newcomers to the musical game like "Buena Vista Social Club" and "Death Becomes Her to straight plays — traditionally considered a less tourist-friendly choice — such as "Purpose" and "John Proctor Is the Villain.
