National Public Radio's "Cost of Living: The Price We Pay" series is currently examining what's driving price increases on a wide array of items and services and how people are coping after years of inflation. One of the latest installments focuses on the prices of sports tickets. Prices have more than doubled since the United States Department of Labor began tracking such data in 1999. During that time span, costs — most notably, athletes' salaries — have surged. Other reasons include: one, dynamic pricing; two, the introduction of more premium experiences and three, teams are more eager than ever to sell fewer seats at higher prices than more seats at a lower price.
