After the project was paused, an eagerly anticipated arena development to help South Korea capitalize on the K-pop phenomenon has been given a revised opening date. Seoul Arena was originally set for completion in October 2023 but is now targeted for 2027. IT giant Kakao, which is partnering with Seoul's city government on the venue in the northern Dobong district, temporarily halted development due to rising costs. Grand opening plans now appear to be back on track following a groundbreaking ceremony. In addition to an 18,269-seat arena, the complex will include a 2,010-seat performance hall. It is projected to draw 2.5 million tourists annually to the city.
