Seahawks Set for Largest Just Walk Out Tech Expansion in Sports
Forbes (11/22/22) Newcomb, Tim
Following the Seattle Seahawks' successful tryout of Amazon's Just Walk Out and Amazon One technologies this season in an upper-concourse location at Lumen Field, the team opened three additional locations on the main concourse for a game on Nov. 27. This marks the largest expansion of the technology in sports, and the Seahawks' Zach Hensley said such solutions offer the best opportunity "to get fans back in the seats as quick as possible." The Just Walk Out and Amazon One implementations transformed the concourse site into a frictionless District Market store in a bid to enhance the fan experience and increase revenue. The location experienced a 74% boost in customer throughput compared to the previous traditional belly-up concession stand in the same place, while total transactions per game doubled compared to the previous model. The Seahawks and Amazon compiled data from around the venue and promoted various grab-and-go options in the technology store. In terms of continued expansion, "we are advancing from the one large store in the main concourse of stadiums and are starting to work with customers on leveraging the technology more broadly, particularly in the upper levels of stadiums which are historically underserved in terms of speed and technology," explained Jon Jenkins with Amazon's Just Walk Out.
