The Seattle Seahawks announced a new alliance with DTG Recycle as the recycling partner of the team's home stadium, Lumen Field. DTG Recycle will oversee all traditional recycling and compost for the stadium, which has prioritized sustainability since its 2000 opening. The company will also make educational contributions by providing 20 ambassadors to help guests at events and on game days to pick the right receptacle to deposit waste. “My philosophy all along has been that the simpler we can make it in venue is going to make it better for all of us, which is why we have a two-bin — not three- or four-bin — system on our concourses,” said Lumen Field sustainability manager Christy Briggs. “Simplifying it helps the fans just enjoy the experience of the game, which is why they come to our facility.” DTG Recycle will partner with operations staff at Lumen Field and the Seahawks' practice facility, Virginia Mason Athletic Center, to source recycling options for hard-to-recycle materials like electronic waste, styrofoam, broken equipment and certain plastics. The team and Lumen Field continue to uphold their commitment to sustainability, pushing toward a closed-loop recycling program that keeps more than 90% of stadium waste out of landfills.
