Deadline (12/18/25) Evans, Greg
The San Francisco Giants Organization has acquired the Curran Theatre, one of the city's most historic live theater venues, for an undisclosed sum. Carole Shorenstein Hays was the seller. The Curran has been a prolific presenter and producer of live theater – both "Wicked" and August Wilson's "Fences" played there prior to their initial Broadway runs. In addition, the Curran was home to "The Phantom of The Opera" from 1993 to 1999, the longest continuously running production of the musical outside of New York City and London. Giants President & CEO Larry Baer comments, "Acquiring the Curran expands our commitment to San Francisco and reinforces our core belief that sports, arts and culture are essential to San Francisco’s identity, economy and resurgence. We intend to honor the Curran’s storied past steeped in Broadway shows and musicals and continue to build and expand the offerings of live performances reflective of our city’s culture, inclusive of music, comedy and family entertainment."
