Playbill (03/08/24)
As Women's History Month approached, Playbill did some research and found that Broadway's 2023–24 is a truly historic season for female directors and writers. Of the 38 shows mounted during this current season, 16 have either been directed or co-directed by women. Furthermore, in 2023–24, a total of seven plays were written by women, a half-dozen musicals featured female book writers, four musicals were composed by females, and five had female lyricists. In total, seven new musicals were written by women. The last time there were that many was Broadway's 1949–50 season.
