The tragic crash of American Airlines Flight 5342 last Wednesday deeply affected the U.S. figure skating community, as it claimed the lives of 28 members of the community, including athletes, coaches and family members. They were returning from a national development camp associated with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas. In response to the tragedy, U.S. Figure Skating has been offering counseling services and established the U.S. Figure Skating Family Support Fund to assist those directly impacted. GoFundMe pages have been set up for affected families, with some specifically supporting members of the figure skating community. A tribute will take place on March 2 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., with proceeds going to the Family Support Fund.
