Playbill (10/30/23) Gans, Andrew
Oct. 30 marked the 20th anniversary of the international hit musical Wicked, which this past April became the fourth longest-running production in Broadway history. The phenomenon has spent two decades at the Gershwin Theater, and celebrated its 20th year with a performance on ABC's Good Morning America, a Wicked Day Block Party outside the Gershwin and special “Pink” and “Green” performances that boasted either a Pink or Green Performance Wicked Day Playbill. The celebrations were scheduled to conclude on Oct. 31 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts with a free panel discussion about the musical's creation, featuring composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz, librettist Winnie Holzman and producer David Stone. Wicked has won more than 100 international awards and has been performed in over 100 cities in 16 countries worldwide. It has been translated into six languages, been seen by nearly 65 million people, and collected over $5 billion in global sales.
