The obsolescence and inefficiency of Hong Kong's reigning concert ticket-selling platform, HK Ticketing, was made painfully apparent in December, when it released tickets for four March concerts by superstar K-pop band BTS. The firm's website crashed from overwhelming numbers of fans and ticket-buying bots, while the platform adds to purchasers' burden by still relying on printed tickets. Although at least three Hong Kong ticketing companies already have the technology to email individual quick response codes directly to customers, fans have little option but to go through HK Ticketing for the most popular venues. HK Ticketing's dominance of Hong Kong concert ticket sales is seen as directly related to its ownership by NWS Holdings, the conglomerate flagship of Hong Kong property developer New World Development. This means that fans will continue to be locked into a market that only offers a substandard event experience for the time being.
