After fielding complaints from New Yorkers who arrived to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for a recent Bad Bunny concert, only to be denied entry because their tickets were fake, New York Attorney General Letitia James is urging individuals to be cautious in the coming weeks. With performances from now through Sept. 14, Bad Bunny has a sizable fanbase throughout the city, prompting James to issue the following consumer alert as people travel to the San Juan shows: "Too often, scammers take advantage of big events to dupe people out of their hard-earned money, and I am urging New Yorkers to take caution when purchasing their Bad Bunny concert tickets." The Office of the Attorney General issued a list of tips to avoid scams, urging consumers purchasing secondhand tickets to: one, check to see if the venue, performer or event has an official, verified ticket purchasing or reselling source; when purchasing from a reseller, only use reputable ticket resale platforms with guaranteed refunds if something goes wrong; avoid using cash, wire transfer or pre-paid money transfer to buy tickets; be wary of any and all high-pressure sales tactics and deals that appear "too good to be true;" check the reputation of an online ticket broker via the Better Business Bureau; and, finally, be cautious of tickets that are printed at home, as even if it looks authentic, it may not be.
