AEG will open an Australian office for its AXS ticketing platform in January, potentially establishing a connection with AEG Ogden venues including Qudos Bank Arena, Brisbane Entertainment Center, RAC Arena, Suncorp Stadium and Perth Theater. AEG also is partnered with the Mushroom Group's Frontier Touring, giving the organization potential governance of the tickets, the venues and the shows themselves. AXS CEO Bryan Perez is eyeing the Australian live music market as part of the group's global expansion, envisioning a third major ticketer who can do business differently from Ticketek and Ticketmaster. It remains uncertain as to whether the additional competition will drive down fees for consumers. The move follows long-term consolidation in the promotion industry, and raises questions of whether smaller promoters that lack ticketing revenue will be able to compete.
