Pollstar (08/01/19) Moose, Rev.
Marauder co-founder and managing partner Rev. Moose writes that his boutique music marketing company sets itself apart through its commitment to independent venues. "As ... smaller artists become more well known, it's these early spaces that are the anchor for future tour plans," he explains. Moose emphasizes that independent venues are prized by young acts because "personal relationships between the artists, the audience, and the venue staff ... keeps people emotionally invested. This is a fully reciprocal relationship, giving a platform to emerging artists while populating a room with eager fans. Without being a part of the local community an independently owned venue has no chance of survival." Moose adds that the definition of independent should be widened to include the broader community. "These independent venues, and independent record labels, and independent record stores and independent artists all work together because we're all part of something bigger," he says. With this in mind, Moose champions Independent Venue Week in July, which Marauder sponsors.
