A national poll of 1,500 U.S. sports fans by Tappit found that 27% of respondents are currently eager to attend a sporting event in the next six months, compared to 58% planning to go in the next 12 months. A 78% majority claimed sitting too close to other spectators was a factor shaping their decision to attend an event, while 52% cited long lines at concession stands, and 45% cited the reduced atmosphere in the venue. In terms of physical safeguards, 71% of respondents favored social distancing, 58% supported sanitizing stations, and 48% preferred temperature screening. Also welcomed by fans were shorter lines around concessions and expedited transactions. When queried about the introduction of contactless payment solutions to lower the risks around COVID-19, 56% of U.S. sports fans said they would feel more comfortable if their team's stadium set up contactless payment options. Tappit also found that 61% of fans felt valued by their team in connecting with them via social media, online marketing content and more. Fans across the spectrum also are looking for personalized engagement from their favorite teams, especially since most are not yet ready to attend in-person games.
