Major music festivals including Austria's Nova Rock, Germany's Rock am Ring, Belgium's Rock Werchter and Brazil's Rock in Rio are seeing sell-out crowds this year as a result of pent-up demand. Nova Rock promoter Nova Music Entertainment says a record 225,000 visitors are expected to attend the four-day festival in Nickelsdorf this month. Meanwhile, Rock am Ring recently announced selling a record 90,000 weekend tickets for its 2022 edition, while sister festival Rock im Park sold over 70,000 tickets. Moreover, Rock Werchter and Rock in Rio have sold out their typical allocation of tickets in record time. Rock Werchter sold out months ahead of when it usually would, with 67,000 combi-tickets and four lots of 21,000 one-day tickets shifting by the beginning of February. About 1 million people registered for the opportunity to buy tickets to Rock in Rio, and the Sept. 4 date with Justin Bieber sold out at a record 12 minutes, followed by days headlined by Coldplay (27 minutes), Post Malone (59 minutes), Dua Lipa (64 minutes), Green Day (104 minutes) and Guns N' Roses (285 minutes). Top promoters and ticketing firms such as DEAG, Dice, Event Genius and The Ticket Factory have verified massive demand for events, saying current ticket sales are even higher than those seen before the pandemic. "Such is the demand for events and experiences — both domestically and abroad — event-goers are now spending up to three times more on their domestic and international event trips than even pre-COVID levels," said Event Genius CEO Benjamin Leaver.
