Madonna’s Rio Concert Sets All-Time Attendance Record With 1.6 Million Fans

On Saturday, May 4, Madonna transformed Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach into the world’s biggest dance club as she performed the last concert of her "Celebration Tour" before approximately 1.6 million fans. That's according to Riotur, the municipality’s tourism department, and promoter Live Nation. This ranked as the largest audience ever assembled for a stand-alone concert. The free show topped the Rolling Stones’ Feb. 18, 2006 "Bigger Bang" performance in the same locale, which had attracted 1.5 million fans. Additionally, the attendance is more than ten times Madonna's previous all-time record attendance of 130,000 at Paris' Parc des Sceaux in 1987.
