Madison Square Garden Co. Aims for Mid-2019 Completion of Live, Sports Business Spinoff

The Madison Square Garden Co.'s. spin-off of its sports and live businesses into separate entities is proceeding, and recently filed Securities and Exchange Commission reports established a mid-2019 completion timeline. The live business portfolio would include MSG Bookings and venues such as Madison Square Garden Arena, the Hulu Theater, Radio City Music Hall, the Beacon Theatre, the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., the Chicago Theatre and Boston's Wang Theatre. Other key assets include the Sphere venues proposed in Las Vegas and London, as well as other future venues. In addition, MSG Productions, majority stakes in the TAO Group and Boston Calling Events, and entertainment joint ventures such as Azoff-MSG Entertainment and Tribeca Enterprises would be covered. The firm's sports interests encompass the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers and the Women's National Basketball Association's New York Liberty, which MSG Co. is considering selling. The company also has fulfilled its promise to elevate executive chairman James Dolan to the position of CEO.
