Live Nation Entertainment recently agreed to join a planned stadium district in downtown Atlanta, the latest wager that the demand for live events is enough to power an entire real estate sector. The live-music industry giant has committed to lease a 5,300-seat entertainment venue at Centennial Yards, the $5 billion mixed-use mega project now under construction adjacent to the Atlanta Hawks’ basketball arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Centennial Yards is one of a growing number of master plans nationwide where pro sports teams and developers are teaming up to develop sprawling real-estate projects with stadiums as the centerpiece. In this case, Hawks owner Tony Ressler is partnering with his brother, Richard Ressler, and his CIM Group development firm. Set to open in 2027, the new venue will rank as one of the biggest of Live Nation's indoor theaters. CIM co-founder Shaul Kuba comments, "We're creating a whole new market in Atlanta that really did not exist before."
