On Aug. 28, the Las Vegas Sphere will begin showing a 4D version of "The Wizard of Oz" that will transform the classic 1939 movie into a fully immersive experience. Cutting-edge technology will project "Oz" onto the 160,000 square feet of Sphere screen, with the venue operators counting on the film's generation-spanning appeal to warrant the $104-a-seat ticket price. The Sphere's version of "Oz" has been in development for two years with a team of over 2,000 filmmakers, technicians, audio experts and AI creatives collaborating to transform Kansas, Munchkinland and the Emerald City from 2D locales into an expanded envelopment of sight and sound. Among the 4D elements of the production are 750-horsepower fans built specifically for each screening that hurl wind and paper leaves around the venue.
