As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is going digital, airing across the United States as a television-only event with no audience on Thursday, Nov. 26. Fans missing the Broadway stage will have something to be thankful for, as cast members from the Tony-nominated musical Jagged Little Pill, Hamilton, Mean Girls and Ain’t Too Proud will perform, along with the Radio City Rockettes. COVID-19 safety guidelines, including coronavirus tests and temperature checks, will be in place for performers as they rehearse and record their segments. Those taking part in the parade must wear face coverings that can be removed when singing. The broadcast will be staged in and around New York’s Herald Square area, and Macy’s signature character balloons will be flown with the assistance of an innovative, specially rigged anchor vehicle framework of five specialty vehicles. As a bonus, Broadway alums Leslie Odom Jr., Patti LaBelle, Keke Palmer and Jordin Sparks will make an appearance during the parade.
