Mass quarantines of Italian citizenry to control the coronavirus pandemic has not dampened their resilience or national spirit, as evidenced by housebound people performing impromptu concerts and making entertaining videos on social media to express their gratitude toward doctors and others combating the epidemic. Last Friday evening, Italians all over the country sang the national anthem and played instruments. Doctors in the Lombardy region appreciated the people's standing ovations. "For us, the support of the people is obviously very important," said Fabiano Di Marco at the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo. Professional performers added their voices, with opera tenor Maurizio Marchini serenading the city of Florence, while viola player Danilo Rossi with Milan's La Scala opera house played music from his balcony. Giuliano Sangiorgi, frontman for the band Negramaro, also held a concert from his balcony.
