The Vermont-based Cash or Trade website has in the years following its inception expanded its user base to about 131,179 and counting, handling more than 100,000 concert ticket transactions so far this year. Founded by Brando and Dustin Rich, Cash or Trade enables fans of musical acts to buy, sell, or trade concerts at face value. Cash or Trade can be used for free, while a $24 yearly Gold Membership entitles fans to benefits such as text alerts 10 minutes before specified listings are posted, while perks for sellers/traders include faster post renewing and higher visibility. Once bought and finalized via PayPal, tickets purchased on the site are either physically shipped or electronically transferred. For in-person transactions, Cash or Trade recommends users "meet at coffee shops, hotels, or any common public safe place." The firm also is considering an escrow program, in which transactions are conducted entirely on cashortrade.org. Rich says this should "offer a level of insurance, like a money back guarantee." He notes the majority of transactions on the website proceed smoothly, while a very small number have issues requiring an administrator to mediate in an online discussion area.
