The state-of-the-art Intuit Dome opened its doors for the first time on Aug. 15 in Inglewood, California, featuring a performance by Grammy Award-winning singer Bruno Mars. However, while Mars was to take the stage at 8 p.m., the show had to be delayed to just before 10 p.m. after thousands of people were kept waiting outside. The entry bottleneck was caused by the arena's entry-by-smartphone and opt-in facial-recognition systems not working. As a result, staffers had to inspect digital tickets one by one. Attendees almost immediately took to social media, complaining about the long lines, lack of clear signage, and unreliable Wi-Fi. Other frustrations resulted from the Intuit Dome being cashless and requiring the upload of a payment method onto the Intuit Dome app to make concession and retail purchases.
