Intel Sports and Intel's Retail Solutions Division have made a sizable, undisclosed investment in VenueNext, with plans to embed Intel technologies into its mobile platform. “By integrating our technologies together we can further enhance our mobile offering to enrich the fan experience via their mobile devices,” says VenueNext CEO John Paul. The initial mobile integration will involve Intel True View technology, which will give fans immersive 5K content delivering high-definition images from their smartphone. “Our replay technology takes a play and shows it from all different angles,” Paul notes. “Right now, the angle a fan sees is determined by the broadcaster. When our integration is complete, the fan will be able to choose where they want to be. You can choose to be in the quarterback's eyes, the defender's eyes or from a whole host of different perspectives.” Intel True View features 5K high-resolution cameras deployed throughout the stadium and the Volumetrix data-crunching technology, which captures volumetric data using three-dimensional (3D) pixels. Paul says the platform renders 3D replays and supports a multiperspective view of key moments of the game. The system is currently employed at Levi's Stadium, where the San Francisco 49ers play, and U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings.
