A bipartisan bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives last week would ban TikTok in the United States unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, sells the app to non-Chinese owners within six months. Lawmakers have argued about national security risks stemming from the Chinese government's relationship with ByteDance. It's uncertain whether the bill can pass the U.S. Senate, and if so, legal challenges would likely be filed. TikTok, which boasts over 170 million American users, has developed into one of the leading music discovery avenues. However, a licensing dispute led Universal Music Group to pull its titles earlier this year.
