The 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival tapped a global assortment of artists, architects and designers to set up massive, transformative art installations in California's Empire Polo Field to attract attention and provide gathering places. Los Angeles-based artist Maggie West replicated floral photographs on 20 wood- and vinyl-covered steel structures for a installation called "Eden." Paris-based artist Vincent Leroy's "Molecular Cloud" installation utilized inflatable spheres that floated above the audience, ebbing and flowing with the surrounding light. Sri Lankan artist Kumkum Fernando's "The Messengers" consisted of three towering sculptures or "idols," while Los Angeles-based cyber physical architect Güvenç Özel created the 60-foot-tall physical-virtual "Holoflux" installation. Having artists who specialize in immersive media create works placed alongside contemporary musical performances upheld the organizers' mission to make Coachella an ever-evolving experience.
