A newly announced Massachusetts law significantly limits how consumers can transfer or resell tickets for concerts and sporting events. Signed into law as part of the Economic Development Bill, the legislation gives sellers more control over ticket resale by requiring that tickets can only be resold through the original platform where they were purchased, such as Ticketmaster or SeatGeek. Consumer advocacy groups, like MASSPIRG, argue that the law harms fans by restricting their ability to sell or transfer tickets freely. Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, defends the law, claiming it targets ticket scalpers and bots that drive up prices on secondary resale markets.
