Momentum for cashless sports venues is building, with AMB Sports & Entertainment, owner of the National Football League's Atlanta Falcons and Major League Soccer's Atlanta United, removing cash transactions from Mercedes-Benz Stadium starting March 10. Other Atlanta venues are following similar strategies, with SunTrust Park food provider Delaware North Sportservice deploying additional mobile payment express lines for baseball season. AMB Sports' cashless project was partly fueled by the company's decision to slash 50 cents off certain concession items for 2019. With the transition, Mercedes-Benz Stadium can migrate from its whole-number pricing model, which was used to speed up transaction times, and AMB Sports can adjust pricing more frequently. Stadium patrons must now use credit and debit cards and mobile payment options to purchase concessions, while hawkers in the stands will use tablets to process cashless payments. Ten machines that convert cash to a Visa debit card will be installed for transactions inside the facility and any location outside the venue where Visa is accepted. "We're going to try and make this as seamless for our fans as possible," says AMB Sports CEO Steve Cannon. "We can shift the machines around depending on demand and add more in the future if needed."
