The annual Electric Daisy Carnival was held May 16-18 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Preparations for North America's largest electronic dance music festival had been underway for several months, involving local authorities, Clark County Fire and Rescue and the University Medical Center. The collaboration ensured the safety of the festival's attendees, which numbered upwards of 150,000 each night over the three-day weekend. Glen Simpson, senior director for Community Ambulance, noted that based on past experiences, he and his colleagues were anticipating that approximately 1% of attendees each night would require some form of medical attention — from minor injuries to serious issues as drug overdoses.
