"Dolly: A True Original Musical" is scheduled to begin previews at the St. James Theatre in Manhattan on Dec. 7 ahead of a Jan. 19 opening night. That date will also mark the legendary country singer's 81st birthday. The musical about Parton’s life and show business career comes to Broadway after premiering last summer in Nashville. The show is set to several of Parton’s hit songs, everything from "I Will Always Love You" to "Jolene" to "9 to 5," along with some new tunes Parton has written specifically for the musical. Parton co-wrote the book for "A True Original Musical" with Maria S. Schlatter. Bartlett Sher, a Tony Award winner for "South Pacific," is the director of record. The show takes over the St. James after "Titanique," which is presently scheduled to end its run in September.
