Officials at Digital Seat Media said the company has deployed more than 1 million quick response (QR) code tags on individual seats across 50 big league and college venues. Chief strategy and business development officer Rob Steeger said Digital Seat technology can track fan behavior down to the individual seat number. Fans use their mobile device to scan the QR code on their seat's armrest. This summons a portal with functions ranging from real-time game information, fan polls and surveys to enter-to-win sweepstakes, augmented reality filters and mobile coupons from team sponsors. The platform can also integrate with mobile ordering systems for concessions and merchandise. Digital Seat consists of a progressive web app with the look and feel of a native web app usually found on cell phones and other mobiles. The company charges a yearly licensing fee paid by clients. Steeger said Digital Seat Media may share revenue with the venue or the team to sell sponsorships for the platform in certain cases. "What we want is all fans, regardless of their affinity, to engage and make it easy for venues to deliver content," he explained.
