David Foster has been in the music business for more than 50 years, having written and produced hit songs for everyone from Madonna and Whitney Houston to Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire. The 16-time Grammy winner's latest success is "Boop! The Musical," a Broadway comedy that imagines the classic cartoon character Betty Boop (Jasmine Amy Rogers) as a modern-day Manhattanite. The musical opened at the Broadhurst Theatre earlier this month, garnering rave reviews for both the performances and Foster's score. Foster had not written much music the past decades, but said he enjoyed the thrill of tackling a stage production. "With Broadway," he says, "it was so liberating not having that pressure of the radio, so you can literally write anything." He also credits his wife, actress and vocalist Katharine McPhee for helping workshop new lyrics and melodies throughout the show's development.
