California to Require Vaccination or Negative COVID Test for Events

Starting Sept. 20, the state of California will require either proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test for gatherings of 1,000 or more people as new COVID-19 cases continue to surge due to the Delta variant. California already requires such confirmation for indoor gatherings of 5,000 or more, but showing proof is not mandatory. The new rule requires attendees to show proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours of the event, and also includes children under 12 and others who are not allowed to receive the vaccine. The new regulation will be in effect until at least Nov. 1, while state officials say they will reevaluate it by Oct. 15 to determine whether an extension is warranted.
