Lencia Kebede made history this past week, becoming the first Black actor to assume the role of Elphaba full time in the Broadway company of "Wicked." Kebede is a first-generation Ethiopian American from Los Angeles, who spent five years touring with "Hamilton." "Wicked" marks her Broadway debut. The popularity of the recent Oscar-nominated movie has not dampened the appetite for the Broadway version, which opened in 2003. Over Christmas, it took in a whopping $5 million over nine performances, marking the highest weekly gross ever for any Broadway show.
