Broadway World (05/05/21)
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that Broadway shows will re-open starting Sept. 14, while tickets went on sale at 100% capacity on May 6. The Broadway League also declared that Broadway productions in New York City will resume ticket sales this month for performances in the fall. Anticipated dates for each returning and new Broadway show will be disclosed in coming weeks on a show-by-show basis as individual productions and their producers work out performance schedules and timelines for their respective shows. Reports indicate that Broadway will comply with all health protocols including "face coverings, health screening, enhanced air filtration and ventilation, and rigorous cleaning and disinfection," and "if performances need to be postponed due to the public health conditions, theaters have planned to offer customer-friendly refunds and exchange policies." Cuomo stated that "visitors from all around the world have come to New York to experience the arts and culture and see iconic performances on Broadway, and sadly, the pandemic put this unique New York experience on pause. Thankfully, as we continue to monitor the data and reopen our economy, we are now on track to allow full capacity performances on Broadway to resume in September, bringing back this beloved world-famous attraction."
