Iowa State University (ISU) officials have confirmed that the school has transferred supervision of the Iowa State Center complex from its operations and finance department to the athletic department, with plans to operate multiple venues under a single umbrella. The complex includes the 2,747-seat Stephens Auditorium, the 454-seat Fisher Theater, and the Scheman Building for campus meetings and community functions. The athletic department operates the Jack Trice Stadium and the Hilton Coliseum. "Combining operations of our athletics venues with the Iowa State Center into one management portfolio will allow for greater efficiencies, enhancement of facilities, and the opportunity to increase the value and benefit of the Iowa Center," said ISU President Wendy Wintersteen. VenuWorks is the private manager for Iowa State Center, and VenuWorks owner Steve Peters said, "The only change is that we are reporting up through the athletic department, instead of through the VP for finance." According to Rob Schweers, director of communications for ISU's senior vice president and provost office, the move means "the athletic department can work more closely with VenuWorks to see what makes the most sense for the future, rather than make this decision at this time next year and then trying to figure that all out."
