In a round-up of recent ticketing and live event news from Asia, Typhoon Ampil threatened Summer Sonic, the Tokyo edition of Japan's largest urban pop festival that took place the weekend of Aug. 17-18 in Chiba. The festival also took place simultaneously in Osaka, which was not in the storm’s path. While the typhoon did dump heavy rain and blow fierce winds across the Tokyo metro area, it remained far off the coast and veered northeast late on Aug. 16. Just before Summer Sonic, Creativeman announced a new festival that will be held in January at the Makuhari Messe complex. Called Rockin’ On Sonic, this festival will be a collaboration between Creativeman and Rockin’ On magazine, which operates Japan’s biggest rock festival in terms of sheer attendance. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s biggest music and arts festival, the three-day Clockenflap, recently announced its 2024 edition will take place Nov. 29 to Dec. 1. Finally, to combat online ticket scalping, the K-pop industry in Korea is going high tech. Toss, the country’s leading fintech company, has joined with major entertainment company HYBE, to develop anti-scalping technology. This marks the first time that companies from different industrial disciplines have partnered to address the scalping problem.
