International Ticketing App TodayTix to Host California Shakespeare Theater’s First-Ever ‘Pay What You Can’ Digital Program

San Francisco, CA (June 7, 2018) – TodayTix, the international ticketing platform on a mission to redefine the way people experience theater, has partnered with the Bay Area’s renowned California Shakespeare Theater (Cal Shakes) to offer their first digital “Pay What You Can” ticketing program. Starting with Cal Shakes’ 2018 Summer Season’s first preview performance on June 13, 2018, theatergoers can pick their ticket price to attend the first performance of each production for as a little as $5.
Previously, Cal Shakes’ “Pay What You Can” program was only available by calling the box office or purchasing at the door. Making this program digital through TodayTix will bring new audiences to Cal Shakes’ signature outdoor performances at the Bruns Amphitheater in the East Bay.
“While Cal Shakes has been offering ‘Pay What You Can’Previews for the past several years, we’ve been hampered by having to rely on in-person sales to process ‘Pay What You Can’ tickets. The downside of being a destination theater is that patrons don’t want to travel to us unless they know they’re going to get to see the show. Partnering with TodayTix to provide a digital ‘Pay What You Can’ purchase opportunity is a no-brainer, as it gives our ‘Pay What You Can’ patrons an opportunity to lock in their seats earlier in the day before they plan their trip to the theater,” said Derik Cowan, Box Office Manager of Cal Shakes.
Accessing “Pay What You Can” tickets is simple. Audiences can download the TodayTix app or visit TodayTix.com to purchase tickets on a first-come, first-served basis at 10am EST on each “Pay What You Can” performance day. The “Pay What You Can” performance dates for Summer 2018 are: June 13 for “Quixote Nuevo;” July 18 for “Everybody;” August 23 for “The War of the Roses;” and September 25 for the return of last summer's hit play “black odyssey.” Patrons can also set an email and push notification reminder alert through TodayTix to be notified when “Pay What You Can” tickets for each show go on sale.
